Summary

This chapter is a door that has been opened to so much more. With the right dataset and calculations, you can build absolutely anything you want. Yes, it requires a bit, and sometimes a lot, of practice, but mastering Tableau goes through this. As the title of this book says, we're only getting started here!

In this chapter, you learned the basics of Calculated Fields. With simple examples, you understood why aggregation is so important, created your first calculations, and used your first Tableau functions. In the second part of this chapter, things started to get a bit more complicated with two types of special functions: Table Calculation and LOD. Table functions are applied after the aggregations and can be computed in various ways. You can use them to calculate ranks, difference, percentage of total, and more. LOD can ignore Dimension Filters. Both are powerful; both require practice.

In the next chapter, you'll first learn how to use all the analytics tools provided by Tableau...
