Summary

In this chapter, we learned how to develop a semantic model using Powe BI. We started by putting down the design for the model using a concept called dimensional modeling, also known as a star schema. You learned how you would start by identifying the business processes, the dimensions associated with the business processes, and how you would map them out in an enterprise bus matrix. This allows you to easily sketch the star schema, which would act as the outline for your model. Then, you learned how to identify the facts and the measures that users want to measure, and how to map them to your business process.

Once the design was laid out, you learned how you would prepare the data – that is, by connecting, extracting, transforming, and loading the data into Power BI by mapping the star schema from the design.
