Playing with Grease Pencil objects

To use Blender's 2D animation tool, Grease Pencil (GP), we'll begin with a series of warm-ups to see how the tools work. GP has two modes: Notation and Object. For Notation, the annotate mode is used to draw on top of your scene, leaving notes, and marking up your blend files in a non-destructive fashion. The GP object has layers that store brush strokes that can have a variety of line styles and fills. These can store different strokes across multiple keyframes for animation, and are extensible with modifiers and effects. Annotation is useful for taking notes and sharing file instructions with others, while GP objects are where we'll create our alien hero and their environment. In fact, many of the figures in this book have arrows and labels drawn directly in Blender using the Annotate tool.
