Grid Control High Availability and Disaster Recovery


The Grid Control (GC) version of OEM is free, but its functionality is limited without the additional purchase of the Management Packs. It also includes two licenses not ordinarily included in the Enterprise Version of the database—Partitioning and RAC. Note that you are only allowed to use these free optional components on a repository (which is an Oracle database) dedicated to EM use. If you have a single database to administer, it is most likely you will use the Database Control Utility instead of the fully-fledged GC application; there is a difference in the features and functionality between the two versions. This section will deal with GC only. When GC 10.2.0.5 is mentioned in this chapter, it is referring to the OEM Server version and not a database version.
