Features deprecated in Server 2022

It is quite rare that Microsoft removes technology from their operating systems, but there is a list of features and functions that are being officially deprecated in Server 2022. This does not mean that Microsoft will no longer support customers who utilize these things, but that they have no plans to make future improvements to these technologies.

Semi-Annual Channel (SAC) releases

As we have already discussed, the SAC releases of Windows Server will no longer be built and released. The future of on-premise Windows Server is through the standard LTSC release channel.

Windows Internet Name Service (WINS)

I almost never see WINS in use in a production environment, because DNS took its place many years ago, and WINS has been largely unnecessary for a long time. However, it is important to note that as of Windows Server 2022, Microsoft is officially considering it deprecated and recommending it no longer be used.
