Configuring View Layers
In this section, we're going to set up View Layers. View Layers are used to split your scene into different render layers so that we have access to different parts of our scene, such as our character and shadows. Rendering separate layers allows you to make adjustments to individual objects when doing compositing. This can be extremely powerful. Let's get started!
First, we're going to create our shadow catcher. A shadow catcher will allow us to overlay the shadows of our 3D objects onto the live-action footage. Proceed as follows:
- Select the Plane object in 3D Viewport.
- Click the Object Properties icon to the right of 3D Viewport.
- Scroll down and expand Visibility.
- Tick the box next to Shadow Catcher.
Immediately, you should see a change in 3D Viewport. The Plane object is now transparent, and you can see the character's shadows being cast onto the live-action footage. Notice how the character's shadow...
