Creating and managing an InfluxDB database

In this section, you will learn how to create a database, record values, and read them. But, before that, let’s look at some important concepts of InfluxDB databases.

Main concepts of InfluxDB databases

In this subsection, you will learn about the data structure of InfluxDB databases.

Organization

The InfluxDB organization is the same concept that we have seen for Grafana. An organization is a workspace where you can group users, dashboards, buckets, and tasks.

Bucket

In InfluxDB, the data is stored in buckets. A bucket consists of a database that is related to a retention period. The retention period establishes the time that each data point persists in the database. Also, each bucket belongs to an organization.

In the next table, you can see an example of an InfluxDB bucket. This table will be useful for defining the rest of the concepts:
