Prior to this, she worked for several years as an equity research analyst and gained extensive experience in evaluating both public and private companies. Cronin has a joint MBA/MA from the University of Southern California and an MS with distinction in management and systems from New York University. She graduated with a BA from the University of Pennsylvania with a major in economics (summa cum laude).

Edge computing

Edge computing is a distributed computational model that plays a crucial role in the realization of the Metaverse by enabling real-time, immersive experiences. The key function of edge computing is to perform processing at the “edge” of the network, which could encompass a local computer, an IoT device, or an edge server located closer to the origin of the data. The primary benefit of this methodology is the reduction in the need to shuttle huge volumes of data between the user’s device and the cloud as it processes data nearer to its source.

In the context of the Metaverse, this is of substantial importance as it involves significant data processing to create immersive, real-time interactions. Such interactions traverse numerous data-intensive applications, including AI-driven virtual interactions, real-time gaming, VR, AR, 3D video, and more.
