Summary

The building industry self-identified the complexity of designing and developing smart building initiatives and, therefore, developed the Smarter Stack guide to visualize and eliminate this complexity. The Smarter Stack is designed to be used across several different perspectives to identify business and financial requirements, along with technology, connectivity, communications, and cybersecurity requirements. Several examples have been provided, but in the end, each smart building project will be as unique as the building itself, and requirements can be reviewed from many perspectives. Finally, agile methodologies should be implemented to scale smart buildings much faster.

Now that we have developed a method for capturing the requirements, the next chapter will focus on identifying and understanding our current building systems and determining what needs to be modified.
