Preparing data
Once you have a design for your semantic model, you must prepare the data required to build your semantic model.
In Chapter 4, we explored the six phases of data analysis, with a focus on preparing data for processing and processing data for analysis. In that chapter, preparing data involved readying it for analysis through connecting and profiling. On the other hand, processing data encompassed cleaning and transforming the prepared data. It’s important to note that in the broader context, the term “data preparation” or “data prep” includes activities from both the aforementioned phases – connecting, profiling, cleansing, and transforming the data. In this section, when I mention preparing data, you’ll see that I am referring to the latter set of activities. However, before we get started with data preparation and the rest of the activities, we need to review the requirements.
