Fundamentals of data storytelling
At its core, data storytelling is about transforming raw data into a narrative that resonates with people. Traditionally, storytelling has always been there as a tool to communicate and even teach about sharing information. The human brain responds to stories much better than looking at numbers. A lot of research has been done about how storytelling affects the brain, as shown in Figure 9.1:

In terms of the data analytics ecosystem, the goal of analytics is to persuade, allow people to make decisions, and create change. So, data storytelling is at the heart of those decisions that, using just raw numbers, are very hard to take.
Let us look at some of the key fundamentals of data storytelling and why it is an essential skill for data analysts to learn.
