Summary

Phew! We covered a lot of ground in this chapter, which although substantial is still just the tip of the iceberg. However, I feel pretty confident in saying that you as a reader should now be familiar with the answers to the following questions, which we asked before starting this chapter:

  • Why was Bluetooth Low Energy designed or what is the need for Bluetooth Low Energy?
  • What are the differences between Bluetooth Low Energy and Bluetooth Classic?
  • What does the architecture of Bluetooth Low Energy look like?

Apart from delving deeper to answer these questions, we also briefly touched upon the advent of the latest Bluetooth Low Energy 5 specification and how it is going to help IoT to reach new levels of connectivity and data exchange between devices. Furthermore, we also scratched the surface of Mesh Networking and Beacons.

With all this theory under our belt, we are now going to apply it to gain hands-on knowledge over the course of this book. Going ahead, we will be setting up our development environment, sniffing a fit-bit device, brewing our very own homemade beacons, designing a personnel tracking system using iTags, and we'll then bring it all together by building a complete warehouse monitoring system. So put on your seat belts, here we go.
