Capitalization

You might find yourself receiving data that is not consistently capitalized. The following steps will help you quickly capitalize your cells:

1. Fire up Excel 2013 and create a new spreadsheet. In column A, enter the following information:

   Name

   david Rojas

   Bill Fergus

   Mary blue

   BOB BOBBY

   MikE HoPe

   The following is some sample data that comes from an online registration form.

   As you can see, some of the names are capitalized and some are not. We also have some names that are all in caps and others that have capital letters in odd places. In practice, these inconsistencies come from web forms or user-created spreadsheets. Excel has a very handy function called proper that will correct all of these issues in a flash.

2. In cell B2, type =PROPER( and select cell A2, and then press the Enter key on your keyboard, as shown in the following screenshot:
