Chapter 13: Present and Defend – First Mock

In this chapter, we will continue creating an end-to-end solution for our first full mock scenario. We have covered most of the scenario already in Chapter 12, Practice the Review Board – First Mock, but we still have plenty of topics to cover. We will continue analyzing and solutioning each of the shared requirements and then practice creating some presentation pitches.

We will follow the same sequence that you will go through in the real exam. After the presentation, we will move on to Q&A and practice defending and changing our solution based on the judges' feedback.

After reading this chapter, you are advised to reread the scenario and try to solution it on your own.

In this chapter, we're going to cover the following main topics:

  • Continuing to analyze requirements and creating an end-to-end solution
  • Presenting and justifying your solution

By the end of this chapter, you will have...

Continuing to analyze requirements and creating an end-to-end solution

We covered the business process requirements earlier. By the end of that, we had a very good understanding of the potential data model and landscape. We have already marked some objects as potential LDVs.

Next, we have a set of data migration requirements that we need to solve. Once we complete them, we will have an even better understanding of the potential data volumes. We can then create our LDV mitigation strategy.

Let's start with the data migration requirements first.

Analyzing the data migration requirements

This section's requirements might impact some of your diagrams, such as the landscape architecture diagram or the data model.

Some candidates prefer to create some diagrams to explain the data migration strategy. These are optional diagrams; therefore, we will not be creating them in this book. Feel free to use any additional diagrams if they help you organize your thoughts.

...

Presenting and justifying your solution

It is now time to create your presentation. This is something you will have to do on the go during the review board as you will likely consume all 3 hours in creating the solution and supporting artifacts.

This is why you need to develop your presentation and time management skills to ensure you describe the solution with enough details in the given timeframe. We will discuss some time keeping techniques in Appendix, Tips and Tricks, and the Way Forward.

In the previous chapters, we saw several examples of presentation pitches that dived into the right level of detail. This time, we will focus on shaping an actual review board presentation. We will also create presentation pitches for the following topics: the overall solution and artifact introduction, one of the business processes, and the data migration and LDV mitigation strategy. We will pick the customer registration process as it is the most complex and lengthy.

We will then hold...

Summary

In this chapter, we continued developing the solution for our first full mock scenario. We explored more challenging accessibility and security requirements. And we created comprehensive LDV mitigation and data migration strategies. We tackled challenges with reporting and had a good look at the release management process and its supporting governance model.

We then picked up specific topics and created an engagement presentation pitch that describes the proposed solution end to end. We used our diagrams to help us explain the architecture more thoroughly, and practiced the Q&A stage using various potential questions.

In the next chapter, we will get to know our second full mock scenario. You will get the chance to practice solving another challenging set of requirements, and you will get even more familiar with the structure of full scenarios.

In the next chapter, we will tackle our second full mock scenario. It is as challenging as the first, but it has a slightly...
