Summary

Azure SQL Database backups are different to on-premises database backups. The regular backup database command isn't supported in Azure SQL Database. In this chapter, you learned about the automatic backups that are unique to Azure SQL Database and aren't available in an on-premises database.

You also learned to take manual backups of an Azure SQL Database using SQL Server Management Studio and PowerShell. The manual backup is just an export of the schema or the data and schema stored as a DACPAC or BACPAC format, respectively.

In the next chapter, we will look at the restore options available in Azure.
