Configuring ZooKeeper on Ubuntu 14.04, 16.04, and OS X from source

Getting ready

Please follow the instructions in Chapter 1, Getting Started with Apache Mesos to install Mesos from source code prior to executing the following steps. For a multi-master Mesos/ZooKeeper configuration, confirm that DNS A (host) and PTR (reverse lookup) records have been added to your DNS servers for your Mesos hosts. DNS configuration is outside the scope of this book.

How to do it...

This recipe will work for both Ubuntu and OS X but we will use the following configuration on eight Ubuntu 16.04 VMs for our source install demo cluster:
