F&O and Dataverse environments

While this may seem something that’s not related to F&O, it’s something that Dynamics 365 consultants will need to be familiar with, and not only if you want to configure F&O and Dataverse environment linking. Why?

In the near future, LCS is going to be replaced by PPAC, and existing projects will be migrated to PPAC over the coming years until LCS is finally deprecated. All customers onboarding a Dynamics 365 F&O project will be using the new experience in PPAC, deploying and managing environments from there instead of LCS.

Goodbye LCS!

While new customers will only use PPAC, existing customers will still be using LCS. However, they will be migrated to PPAC, and finally, LCS will be retired.

The new unified developer experience, where a F&O environment is deployed from Dataverse to be used for development, is also a hint of what the future of F&O in PPAC looks like (see Figure 10.1):
