Face recognition, which is a specific case of object recognition, where a person is identified or verified from an image or video using the information extracted from the face, can be decomposed into face identification and face verification:

Face verification is a 1:1 matching problem that tries to answer the question: Is this the claimed person? For instance, unlocking a mobile phone using your face is an example of face verification.
