A fascinating thought is an idea of making technology invisible in use. Wearables should be invisible to those around the user (Healey, M., 2007). This is not a new idea; it has been researched within the Human Computer Interaction (HCI) field (Card, S., Moran, T., Newell, A., 1980). The term HCI was first used in 1975 (Carlisle, J., 1976).
Are there technologies that you currently use that are seamless in their purpose? The notion of Ubiquitous Computing is appropriate for the field of wearables, as it is about computing appearing anytime and anywhere. Wearables should also not require continual attention (Amft, O., Lauffer, M., et al., 2004).
The approach for this book is to learn and become confident in making wearables from an informed perspective. However, learning these skills will also allow you to apply your own creative freedoms and explorations, which doesn’t necessarily follow the more traditional routes I am describing...
