Data growth challenges

Growing data volumes have long been known to negatively impact application and reporting performance. General estimates by industry analysts have commonly seen that most enterprises have about 80 percent data from the enterprise which is historical and not accessed frequently or at all, providing little value to the business and production applications. Historical data is primarily used for reporting purposes or to analyze or mine intelligence from it and is kept in production databases, causing overheads and affecting application performance. This creates a significant impact on application performance, increased storage costs, and takes longer to complete a backup and recovery. End-of-month financial closings, inventory reporting, and manufacturing processes are often built around these systems, making any performance or availability issues a priority for senior IT and business managers.
