In any Essbase database, the data can be grouped into two distinct categories. First, there is data that has been entered or loaded into the database. This data can be from some type of data load from an external source or from a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet with the Essbase add-in "Lock and Send" functionality.
Second, there is data that can be derived or calculated from the existing data elements which were entered, loaded, or input into the database. This data can be as simple as the total value at a parent level that has been added from the children values. It can also be the result of a complex calculation that has taken advantage of Essbase's extensive and powerful mathematical functions that are available to you in the calculation function library.
