Understanding the DNA of WHOIS – Its definition and purpose

Performing a WHOIS lookup involves sending a query to any of the WHOIS servers responsible for managing the database of the Top-Level Domain (TLD). In response, the WHOIS server looks up the information in its database and then responds with a text record containing the available registration details for that object. This record includes things such as the domain’s registrar, registrant contacts, nameservers, registration and expiration dates, and status. Here’s exactly what happens:
