College degrees to land a role as a CSA

Most job postings for CSA roles prefer a traditional two/four-year degree or equivalent experience. A technical background is necessary, commonly paired with a technical degree. A degree in computer science/programming provides a baseline understanding to design and deploy solutions but will likely be environmentally agnostic. Additional learning and/or experience is needed because cloud platforms have some unique considerations, as mentioned in previous chapters.

Typically, a CSA will not be hired directly out of college without a complimentary set of credentials such as certifications or experience. It is very common for a recent college graduate to enter the workforce as an engineer with the goal of becoming a CSA over time.
