Summary

In this chapter:

• We tried our hand at a practical application that uses a Sphinx backend to perform the core task of searching

• We used PHP for creating an application that fetches different feeds and stores the feed item data in a Sphinx index

• We created a search form that acts as the frontend for searching.

• We learned how to create indexes in the main+delta scheme and how to re-index

In the next chapter we will take up another practical application that will involve some advance features of Sphinx.
