Setting up email

To get started, choose Setting up email from either the Getting set up section or the Email option on the left rail of the Settings menu in the admin panel.

To have Metabase send emails, you need an SMTP server. SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Just as we have been using cloud-based services to provision our web servers, we will also rely on them for our SMTP server.

The fields Metabase asks you to fill out are as follows:

  • SMTP Host
  • SMTP Port
  • SMTP Security
  • SMTP Username
  • SMTP Password
  • A From Address, which will be the email address that Metabase sends the email from

Let's learn how to fill in all of these. There are two common ways to go about this. One is using AWS, which we have already familiarized ourselves with.
