Let's start by looking at what ASNCLP is. In a nutshell, it is a command-line interface for administering Q replication, Event Publishing, and SQL replication.
We can set up the ASNCLP environment on the replication servers, or alternatively we can set it up on another server, which is shown in the following diagram:
If we are replicating from DB2A on a system called SYA to DB2B on a system called SYB, then we can administer the replication scenario from a system called SYC by cataloguing the DB2A and DB2B databases on SYC as DB2A and DB2B. We need to use the same database names because ASNCLP on SYC will use the database alias names and not the actual database names.
The examples in Appendix A, use ASNCLP commands to set up various Q replication scenarios.
The ASNCLP interface can also be used to set up InfoSphere Classic replication (say IMS to Oracle), but this is outside the scope of this book.
