Allocating costs to different data product groups and domains

Azure cloud environments can become very complex, irrespective of whether you implement a data mesh or not. Large and medium-sized organizations can easily grow into many subscriptions housing thousands of resources. Managing and maintaining these resources can be a huge challenge. To ease the job of the cloud ITOps teams, Azure has a concept called tags. Whenever you create an Azure resource in the cloud, it will offer you an option to create some tags for this resource. You will see a Tags section in most Azure resource creation wizards, as shown in Figure 12.6:

Tags can be changed, and new tags can be added after creating a resource too. Figure 12.7 shows the Tags menu option on the resource page of the Azure portal:
