Until PCF Dev became available, the open source product BOSH-lite was a good solution to get started with Cloud Foundry. However, BOSH-lite is more BOSH-centric and, as such, requires a bit of BOSH expertise to deploy Cloud Foundry. BOSH is billed as an open source tool for release engineering, deployment, lifecycle management, and monitoring of distributed systems. Cloud Foundry doesn't actually require that BOSH be used to deploy it. And, conversely, BOSH is not strictly for deploying Cloud Foundry. It is a generalized tool that can be used for deploying and keeping any distributed system running and healthy. However, the two tools are like peanut butter and chocolate—really good together.
BOSH is a major tool in the Platform Engineers toolbox. Less often now, are BOSH and BOSH-lite tools that a Cloud Foundry application developer would use at the beginning of their Cloud Foundry learning process given the advent of PCF Dev. PCF Dev is a more suitable starting...
