Task: Trace Requirements

The first task described as part of the Requirements Life Cycle Management knowledge area is that of tracing requirements during the life of the initiative. In this section, we will gain an understanding of why requirements are traced and learn about the key elements of traceability that a business analyst should consider.

Purpose

According to the BABOK® v3 guide, the purpose of Trace Requirements is to do the following:

"…ensure that requirements and designs at different levels are aligned to one another, and to manage the effects of change to one level on related requirements."
