Working with complex relationships

There are many complex scenarios that need to be addressed when building a data model, and Power BI is no different in this regard. In this section, you will learn how to handle many-to-many relationships and role-playing tables in Power BI.

Many-to-many relationships

Before we discuss how to build a relationship between two tables that have a many-to-many relationship, let's discuss specifically what a many-to-many relationship is. Basically a many-to-many relationship is when multiple rows in one table are associated with multiple rows in another table. An example of a many-to-many relationship can be observed in the relationship between products and customers. A product can be sold to many customers, likewise, a customer can purchase many products.
