Database replay


Many users often find unintentional changes to their applications when a DB is upgraded to a newer version or a patch set is applied. Organizations usually have a test system and a production system so that the changes to the DB can be first tested on the test system before applying them to the production system. But often times it is hard to run the same production application load on the test system to completely test in a production-like environment. Database replay provides DBAs with the ability to systematically re-run accurate production workloads in test environments. It allows the DBAs to capture full database workloads from the production systems including all concurrency, dependencies, and timing scenarios and then replay them on the test system. This is done by capturing the SQL level operation on the production system and replaying the same set of SQL statements on the test system.
