There are lots of people who just assume that WordPress is all about blogs. That can't be further from the truth. It can actually be used to start a powerful e-commerce store. This book is a proof for that. It's a very well written and easy to follow book that gets you familiar with the basics of WordPress e-commerce. Best of all, you do not have to be a PHP or WordPress guru to get started with this book.What I like about this book is the fact that it's very practical. It walks you through all the steps you need to take to bring your online store to life. It can also save you a lot of time with your research as the author has done the work for you and has included a list of top e-commerce and third-party plugins you can take advantage of to manage your store more effectively. Practical instructions are provided to enable you to set up your store and start implementing those plugins fast.This book does not aim to make you a WordPress or PHP expert. It's all about creating a fully functional e-commerce store by taking advantage of solutions that are available for WordPress. It covers all aspects of your e-commerce business, so you can always use it as a reference to add new features to your store. Pretty easy to get started with.

I bought this book only just in time not to really mangle the setting up of an E.Commerce site. It really does cover all eventualities , and is essentially a guidebook for the structuring of a good site , a reminder of what you actually need , and a library of web addresses that are never superfluous . I use several books , but always check this one first.

This book provides step-by-step instructions for setting up the WP e-Commerce plugin, a popular and feature-rich application for adding an online store to WordPress. Unfortunately, the plugin itself lacks adequate documentation, so a book like this can save time and a lot of frustration. The author has included many thoughtful screenshots to illustrate his detailed tutorials. Thorough chapters on payment and shipping options are particularly valuable for filling informational potholes that are likely to trip up the uninitiated.Even though both WordPress and the WP e-Commerce plugin have been revised since this book was published, the basic concepts and many of the procedures are still the same, or close enough to generalize. By the time I bought this book, WordPress was up to version 3.04, and the plugin at version 3.7.8. Nevertheless, it clarified some murky points, confirmed what I had done generally, and gave me useful, new information on some of the more obscure operations of the plugin.As most books from Packt, this one will be easier to understand by readers who have a basic understanding of how websites and blogs work, but prior expertise with WordPress and the plugin is not required. The book starts with an introduction to WordPress, and then covers installation and setup of both WP and the plugin. The latter part of the book goes beyond basic setup with some info about using widgets, compatible themes, theme tweaks, deployment and web hosting.Be aware that version 3.8, a major overhaul of the WP e-Commerce plugin will be released sometime in 2011. I knew that when I got the book, and bought it anyway because I'm building sites for a couple of other people now, and wanted to make sure I didn't overlook or misunderstand anything important. I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of information and feel that I'm better prepared for the projected plugin upgrade than I would have been otherwise.

This book covers a few beginner aspects of setting up for E-Commerce very well. The writing quality is superb. It may not be the only book that you ever buy but you will be glad that you have it.
