Using the basic models

Power Apps has a small number of basic AI models, with associated controls, already built into the app studio. Since they are baked in, they are ready to drop straight into your canvas for you to start using without having to go through any bespoke customization or creation of an AI model.

The models which you have immediately available to you are:

  • Business card reader
  • Receipt processor
  • Text recognizer

As well as controls which are intended to be used for the pre-configured models, there are also controls built into the app studio which allow you to utilize your custom models in your app. They are:

  • Form processor
  • Object detector

We’ll learn more about custom models later.

For now, however, let’s focus on one my personal favourite models, the receipt processor. This has featured in a number of solutions which I’ve built around the collection of expense receipts, where a picture of the receipt can be taken and the model will extract key information...
