Common patterns for interaction and navigation
These patterns control the interaction or offer the user options to control the process and navigation of the application. As usually happens, some of these patterns could also fit into other categories.
Placement of menus
The placement of menus is also a pattern that has been standardized in three basic layouts:
- Menu bars (horizontal) are often placed in a “sticky” position at the top of the screen (meaning they will not scroll with the page).
- Navigation bars (horizontal), mostly popular for mobile devices, are an iconography menu placed at the bottom of the screen to navigate to different sections of the application.
