Software development using Appian

Why still spend four chapters on software development? The reason is that the way software is developed using Appian is different. And this has a huge impact on a lot of aspects of that process.

In my experience, the most important difference is that we implement the process itself and not a tool to merely optimize some steps in that process. The idea of intelligent business process automation is to make the software run the process and have it reach out to humans only when needed.

This is a significant change in how to look at business software. Up to now, most business applications have just displayed data, allowing the user to modify some fields and write it back to the database.

Now we need to think differently. Let me give you some examples.

Business user: "I need a dashboard showing graphical reports that I can check in the morning to find out what to do."
