Introduction


Backup copy creation is the main method of data extraction from mobile devices running BlackBerry OS. On computers running Windows OS, backups of mobile devices running BlackBerry OS are created via BlackBerry Desktop Software or BlackBerry Link. Backup copies have a .bbb extension (in MacOS, backup copies have a .ipd extension).

Backup copies are saved on the following paths:

  • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\My Documents\
  • Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10: C:\Users\<UserName>\Documents \

The backup files have the following names:

 

  • A backup created manually using the Backup and Restore option of the BlackBerry Desktop Software» programBackup- (yyyy-mm-dd) .bbb" *
  • A backup created via the application loading wizard of the BlackBerry Desktop Software LoaderBackup-(yyyy-mm-dd) .bbb» *
  • A backup created automatically: AutoBackup- (yyyy-mm-dd) .bbb*

Note

* yyyy-mm-dd is year-month-day.
