How do I buy and download an eBook?

Where there is an eBook version of a title available, you can buy it from the book details for that title. Add either the standalone eBook or the eBook and print book bundle to your shopping cart. Your eBook will show in your cart as a product on its own. After completing checkout and payment in the normal way, you will receive your receipt on the screen containing a link to a personalised PDF download file. This link will remain active for 30 days. You can download backup copies of the file by logging in to your account at any time.

If you already have Adobe reader installed, then clicking on the link will download and open the PDF file directly. If you don't, then save the PDF file on your machine and download the Reader to view it.

I have been a technical trainer for more than 15 years. I wasn't expect this book to be really clear and practical I was surprised. I feel a lot more confident about creating a MOOC (massive open online course ) for my industry. This is remarkable because the technical parts have never been a struggle for me. But Matthew Gilbert has found a way to strike the balance between keeping instructors focused on the subject and yet navigating the technical aspects to master the medium. I found the chapters on integrating the curriculum to especially useful and his thoughts on promotingthe course especially valuable. The only reason I haven't rated in a 5 is because I think people starting out might need a more illustrations of doing what the course would look like in this format. A narrative that could guide a novice through the process. This might be an unfair evaluation because Packt publish to a highly technical audience. But this book is work the invest and taking the time to read the advice.You can tell the material has the emphasis that only comes from experience.

I purchased this book looking for information on designing online courses, as I do not use the edX software. Fortunately the book goes beyond the software and provides both general direction and specific tips for designing and building an online course.The author emphasizes organizing the material to make it understandable by students and to make production easier. A method for structuring even large courses is described, and applied to the edX environment. Extended information is provided for recording, producing and uploading video files, as they are the main component of many online courses. Many of the specific steps for edX described in the text, such as "how to enter a long course description," are equally valid for setting up any online course, and should be taken into account. There is also a comprehensive section on marketing an online course including social media, personal branding and metrics to measure success; all useful to an instructor planning a course.For those looking for edX information, the book does provide a comprehensive set of instructions and screenshots for setting up a course. Overall this is a very useful book for those planning to deliver courses online.
