Using Headings to Communicate Structure


The most important thing about the 'what this content is' tags are the headings.

A heading in HTML has a special meaning particularly for people using assistive technology (AT). Don't think that increasing the font size and changing the typeface is an OK alternative to using proper headings. Making your fonts bold or increasing the font size is only skin deep. Instead, make sure you use headings appropriately.

We'll see how to use headings appropriately in a moment, but first we need to find some content to experiment on.

Time For Action—Let's Add Some Content

When I put together some example for this book—which are some articles on Music—I divided them into four sections, Classical Music, Funk, Reggae and Soul. I took some articles from Wikipedia to use as content, as looking at endless streams of "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet etc", soon gets a bit old.
