Using Redis as Cache on-Premises

In this recipe, we will learn how to install Redis on Windows, and use it as a cache in-memory system with ASP.NET Core MVC applications.

Getting ready

We will download Redis for Windows, and launch VS 2017 to create an empty web application.

How to do it...

1. First, let's launch http://redis.io:

2. Next, we go to the Download | Windows section:

3. We are automatically redirected to a GitHub project named MSOpenTech/redis:

4. In the following Redis on Windows section, we will find a link for an MSI installer:

5. Here is the download page for the MSI, but we can also download the binaries for Linux or macOS:

6. After downloading, we click on the installer:

7. Let's select the destination folder for the Redis server:

8. Next, we select the port number, where we will request Redis and add an exception to the Windows Firewall:

9. Next, we add the memory limit:

10. Redis is finally installing:

11. Now we will run Redis as a service. To do that, let's launch the Services console on Windows by typing services...
