Book Description
This book is an update to Microsoft System Center DPM 2012 SP1. We’ll commence by installing and upgrading DPM 2016, preparing data storage, configuring cloud backups, identifying compatible tape libraries, and data sources. We will also explore the best practices of DPM deployment, configuration, and managing in various scenarios such as enterprise, BO-HO, or SMB deployments.
We then delve deep into the various aspects of protecting workloads such as SQL, SharePoint, Exchange, clients, file servers, and private clouds such as Hyper-V and VMware. We then look at the backup of deployments based on new Windows 2016 technologies such as Storage Spaces Direct, Virtual TPM, Rolling Cluster Upgrade, and more. You will also learn migrating the backup storage to Modern Backup Storage.
By the end of this book, you will be able to carry out automated installations, migrate DPM to new hardware, set up custom reporting, use the DPM central console, and implement offsite DPM strategies such as chaining, monitoring, and cyclic protection.
