About the authors:

Eli Orr is a PHP advanced web application developer, focused on CodeIgniter-based projects. He has over 30 years of experience in software product development, and has established LogoDial Zappix Ltd. He has also published articles on newly-emerging technologies in several magazines such as Wireless Systems Design, Telephony-Online, CommsDesign, and EE Times.

Yehuda Zadik is an enthusiastic CodeIgniter developer who has been developing rich-functionality and heavy-traffic, web-based applications. He has over 20 years of experience in software development-based, object-oriented programming (OOP) technologies, PHP OOP, and open source Linux environments. He also has a vast knowledge of integrating third-party plugins for network, mobile, and social environments.

CodeIgniter is based on the Model-View-Controller (MVC) development pattern. The Model represents data structures, View is the information that is being presented to a user, and Controller serves as an intermediary between the Model, the View, and any other resources needed to process the HTTP request and generate a web page. MVC is a software approach that separates application logic from presentation. It permits the web pages to contain minimal scripting since the presentation is separate from the PHP scripting. CodeIgniter enables the reader to incorporate their own existing scripts, or even develop core libraries for the system, enabling them to work in a way that makes the most sense to them.

Programming with CodeIgniter MVC is a simple, step-by-step guide to efficiently utilizing the CodeIgniter MVC framework to develop web applications. Filled with practical examples, this book helps the reader to understand the CodeIgniter naming conventions, define his own CodeIgniter libraries, issue AJAX calls of CodeIgniter controller methods, and access CodeIgniter-assigned databases.

Written for PHP developers who wish to learn how to use MVC for application development using CodeIgniter; the book also discusses CodeIgniter Integration with external plugins such as Flickr API and Google Maps. The reader will not only learn about user-defined configurations, but also about mandatory and optional configurations, and their usage within a CI project.

Packt Publishing has also released the following books on CodeIgniter:

CodeIgniter 1.7 Professional Development

CodeIgniter 1.7

CodeIgniter for Rapid PHP Development
