Build User Interfaces Using Widgets With Packt’s New Book And eBook

September 2013 | Web Development

Packt is pleased to announce the release of Building UIs with Wijmo by Yuguang Zhang, a comprehensive guide that will teach readers how to easily build adaptive websites that work on desktops and mobile devices. The eBook, which is available in all the popular formats, is priced at $14.39, while the print book is priced at $29.99.

About The Author:

Yuguang Zhang has worked as a web developer at a number of small companies including SociaLabra, a social media company, and SmartPager, a start-up in mobile paging. His area of expertise is developing interactive client-side applications with Knockout. As a personal project, he built the first IDE that runs Python in a browser, pythonfiddle.com, using Knockout and jQuery UI. In addition to this, he designed and programmed fiddlesalad.com, a multi-language playground for rapid frontend development built with CoffeeScript and Django.

As an introduction to the library, Building UIs with Wijmo walks the user through the features of the dialog widget with examples, before showing the reader widgets for forms, images and tootips. This book takes it further by teaching readers how to use WebSockets for two-way communication between the server and client. With Building UIs with Wijmo, readers will learn all of the common web development components in Wijmo.

With an example-based approach, Building UIs with Wijmo leads readers step-by-step through the implementation and customization of each library component and its associated resources. Readers are given reference tables of each configuration option, method, and event for each component, along with detailed explanations on how each widget is used. Through code recipes and well-explained examples, readers will be able to use Wijmo in no time.

This book covers the following topics:

Chapter 1: Getting Started with Wijmo

Chapter 2: The Dialog Widget

Chapter 3: Form Components

Chapter 4: Working with Images

Chapter 5: Advanced Widgets

Chapter 6: Dashboard with WijmoGrid

Chapter 7: Wijmo Mobile

Chapter 8: Extending Wijmo

Building UIs with Wijmo is targeted at readers who are familiar with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery, and have a basic understanding of web development. Although knowledge of jQuery UI is not mandatory, it would be a bonus as it is quite similar to Wijmo.
