Tableau file types
In addition to the file types mentioned before, there are quite a few other file types associated with Tableau. The following are some of the Tableau file types (with commonly used ones in bold):
.tbm
: This stands for Tableau Bookmark. This is an XML file containing definitions of a static snapshot of a single view and associated data source(s). As sheets can now be copied and pasted from one workbook to another, this file type is largely not needed. You can create a bookmark and import it into other workbooks from theWindow
menu.
.tde
: This stands for Tableau Data Extract, which is a binary file containing data extracted from another source. The.tde
file by itself does not contain information about the original data source..tds
: This stands for Tableau Data Source, which is an XML file containing the definition of a data source (server name, file path, and so on) but does not contain the data. You can export a data source as a.tds
file by right-clicking on the data source...
