Test fitting the robot
A test fit is an important stage before ordering parts as it helps a builder be more confident that components will fit where you’d expect. This step saves you time and money later. While I include the dimensions here, you should check the referenced resources to get into the habit of collecting such specifications for your own designs.We’ll start by using a search engine to get dimensions. The search term “Raspberry Pi 4 Dimensions” will show approximately 86 mm by 57 mm. The nearest millimeter is good enough. You can find the NanoWave 3 battery dimensions on the Pimoroni website, which come to 76 mm by 35 mm. The SparkFun Shadow chassis dimensions are 192 mm by 126 mm, with a height of 44 mm. Given that the battery’s long dimension is 76 mm, we can be confident it will fit on the chassis.Let’s turn the ideas into a test fit – in this case, using a drawing program.
