Summary


Materials are the skin on your 3D objects. Wireframe materials and color-based materials are the most basic materials. More advanced materials are bitmaps and movie clips. Both have inherited classes available that make it easier for you to create new instances of them.

In this chapter we looked at the following material classes in detail:

  • BitmapMaterial

  • BitmapFileMaterial

  • BitmapAssetMaterial

  • MovieMaterial

    We have seen several general and material-specific techniques. We have learned how to:

  • Smooth materials with material.smooth = true.

  • Make double-sided materials by using material.doubleSided = true.

  • Animate materials and set material.animated to true.

  • Prevent distortion in materials using material.precise = true.

  • Make interactive materials and objects. Both require viewport.interactive and material.interactive set to true.

  • Flip materials by using a DisplayObject's scaleX property, or using...
