Wireless Components
Wireless components enable mobile devices such as smartphones, laptops, and even Internet of Things (IoT) devices to connect and share resources on a wired network and with other wireless devices.
The following are some common wireless components:
- Wireless NIC
- Wireless home router
- Wireless access point
- Wireless antennas
Over the following sub-sections, you will learn about the role and function of each wireless component.
Wireless NIC
A wireless NIC enables a client device such as a laptop or a smart device to communicate over a wireless network. Wireless NICs are integrated into the motherboard of IoT devices and smartphones. However, laptops contain a wireless network adapter that is attached to the motherboard and connects to the antennas. For desktop computers, using a USB wireless adapter enables the device to communicate on a wireless network.
