This chapter covers the DB2 database layer, which is the first layer we will look at. The following diagram shows this, and all the sections or layers we will look at in subsequent chapters and sections.

We will not look at the commands to create the control tables in this chapter; this topic is covered in the To create/drop the Q replication control tables section of Appendix A. We will look at the IBMQREP_SIGNAL table, which is used to communicate with Q Capture.
