Cutting-Edge CSS Features

Depending on when you are reading this, the contents of this chapter may seem commonplace and less “cutting-edge” in your daily CSS writing. However, as these words are being written, these are some of the latest additions to the CSS language.

The good news is, there are implementations of all the features we will look at in major browsers such as Chrome and Safari. The only caveat to you using them will be how old the versions of each browser are that you need to support.

Regardless, these are settled APIs that are part of the web platform.

So, here is what we will take a look at in this chapter:

  • The Popover API
  • Anchor positioning
  • Scroll-driven animations
  • View transitions
