Geek of the Year 2011

March 2011

Why is it important?

For far too long geeks have been portrayed as outcasts and social misfits with bad dress sense and poor hairstyle choices. From as far back as George Mcfly in Back to the Future, to Mort Goldman (the drugs store owner in Family Guy with the red curly hair), geeks have acquired an undeserved reputation. Well we say no more. We're making a stand.

We love geeks!

We think we should all acknowledge that being a geek isn't a bad thing. Geeks are shaping the world after all! If it wasn't for a geek, there would be no internet and therefore there would be no Facebook! Vote for your favorite geek from the list of ten finalists by clicking on the poll tab above.

However Geek of the Year isn't simply a poll to find out who rules hardest, it's a movement, so get on board and spread the word.

What can you do?

Video Description

ArcGIS Server provides a backbone for web maps and applications. Users can publish data from shapefiles, files, and enterprise geodatabases to allow for customized display and access in web maps and applications.

In the first section of this course, viewers will learn how to publish dynamic and cached map services, an editable feature service, a feature service with a related table, a WMS and WFS, and a KML service. In the second section of this course, viewers will learn how to access and view services via the ArcGIS REST services directory, Server Manager, and ArcCatalog. In the last section of this course, viewers will learn how to use other mapping APIs to add ArcGIS REST services to a web map.

Viewers will be able to publish a variety of service types to ArcGIS Server and add them to web maps using both the ArcGIS platform and third-party APIs.

Style and Approach

This course will instruct viewers in how to deploy ArcGIS Server, and publish and consume services via ArcGIS and third-party platforms. It follows the first course, which gives an overview of what ArcGIS Server is; what services you can publish and what you can do with them; the data hardware and software prerequisites for deploying Server; and how to design the architecture of ArcGIS for Server to meet your organization's requirements.
