Alan Lord is co-owner of The Open Learning Centre; a specialist consulting company that helps organisations choose, implement and use Open Source Software IT solutions.
Alan's IT career spans too many years to mention, but since school he has always been in technology, developing his skills with companies pioneering in datacoms, telecommunications and the Internet. Alan started experimenting with Linux & Open Source in the late 90s, building operating systems from scratch. His passion for Free Software has been growing ever since.
Many moons ago, at the tender age of 14, Cal touched his first computer. (We’re using the term “computer” loosely here, it was a TRS-80 Model 1) Since then his life has never been the same. He graduated from TRS-80s to Commodores and eventually to IBM PC’s.
Cal has years of experience working with PHP and MySQL on Linux OSX, and when necessary, Windows. He has built a variety of projects ranging in size from simple web pages to multi-million dollar web applications. When not banging his head on his monitor, attempting a blood sacrifice to get a particular piece of code working, he enjoys building and managing development teams using his widely imitated but never patented management style of “management by wandering around”.
Cal is currently based in Nashville TN where he is seeking entertainment in the form of consulting.
Cal is happily married to wife 1.25, the lovely and talented Kathy. Together they have 2 kids who are infinitely more intelligent but not nearly as entertaining as his dog Linus.
Nirav Mehta is a "parallel entrepreneur" from India, and leads multiple businesses and "ad"ventures.
Nirav started early - won a competition and met Bill Gates at the age of 17, started India's first electronic magazine at 19 and founded a web solutions company (www.magnettechnologies.com) at 20. Nirav contributed Gujarati localization to Linux. Nirav has authored two books for Packt.
In 2009 Nirav started Apps Magnet (www.appsmagnet.com) building Basecamp and activeCollab extensions. His recent ventures include Putler (www.putler.com) – a life altering analytics tool for PayPal merchants, Mizen (www.mymizen.com) – a personal productivity solution and Store Apps (www.storeapps.org) – 10x time savings to WordPress e-Commerce users.
The final judge is made up of votes from customers and visitors to www.PacktPub.com. You have the chance to support your favorite CMS by submitting a vote when the final five are announced.
